Introduction
Your Mac is more than just a productivity machine β itβs a powerful streaming platform for Smarter Stream TV. Whether you have a MacBook Air for portability or a Mac Mini connected to your living room television, macOS provides an excellent foundation for high-quality IPTV streaming with support for H.264, H.265, and 4K HDR content.
Thanks to Appleβs tight hardware-software integration, IPTV performance on Mac is outstanding. Apple Silicon Macs in particular handle video decoding with remarkable efficiency, allowing you to stream 4K content for hours on a single battery charge. The Mac App Store gives you access to several high-quality IPTV apps, and the familiar macOS interface makes everything easy to configure.
This guide covers setup using IPTV Smarters Pro from the Mac App Store, with an alternative VLC setup for those who prefer a free, open-source option. All setup methods use your Smarter Stream TV credentials to give you access to 45,000+ live channels, 220,000+ VOD titles, and full EPG support.

Installation Steps
-
Open the Mac App Store β Click the App Store icon in your Dock or go to Apple Menu > App Store. The Mac App Store is the safest source for macOS apps.
-
Search for IPTV Smarters Pro β Use the search bar at the top of the App Store window and type IPTV Smarters Pro. Press Enter. Select the Mac-specific version from the results (ensure itβs tagged as a Mac app, not an iPhone or iPad app).
-
Download and Install β Click Get and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password. The app downloads and installs automatically to your Applications folder. The download is approximately 50β100 MB.
-
Launch IPTV Smarters Pro β Open Launchpad and click on IPTV Smarters Pro, or navigate to Applications in Finder and double-click it. macOS may show a security dialog β click Open to confirm you want to launch the app.
-
Add Your Smarter Stream TV Service β On the appβs welcome screen, click Add User. A dialog appears asking how to connect to your IPTV service.
-
Login with Xtream Codes API β Select Login with Xtream Codes API. Enter a display name like βSmarter Stream TVβ, then copy and paste your Server URL, Username, and Password from your welcome email into the corresponding fields. Click Add User to save.
-
Wait for Your Playlist to Load β The app will connect to our servers and download your complete channel list, VOD library, series, and EPG guide data. For a full playlist this takes approximately 1β3 minutes. A progress indicator is shown during the import.
-
Start Watching Live TV β Use the navigation panel on the left to select Live TV. Your channel groups appear in the left sidebar. Click any group to expand it, then click a channel to start streaming. The player opens in the main window with standard playback controls.
-
Go Full Screen β Press Command+Control+F or click the green full-screen button in the top-left corner of the IPTV Smarters window to enter full-screen mode. This is ideal when using your Mac connected to a TV or external monitor. Press Escape or the same shortcut to exit full screen.
-
Alternative: VLC M3U Setup β Download VLC from videolan.org (get the macOS version). Open VLC and select File > Open Network (Command+N). Paste your M3U URL from your Smarter Stream TV welcome email and click Open. VLC will load and begin playing the first channel. Open the Playlist (Command+Option+P) to navigate to other channels.
Troubleshooting
macOS Gatekeeper blocks the app from opening: If macOS shows βIPTV Smarters cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developerβ, this typically applies to apps downloaded outside the App Store. For apps installed from the Mac App Store, this shouldnβt occur. If using VLC or another third-party app, right-click the app icon and select Open, then confirm in the security dialog. You can also go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Video plays but is choppy or frame-drops on Intel Mac: Enable hardware video decoding in VLC via VLC > Preferences > Video > Video Decoding and set the decoder to VideoToolbox (Appleβs hardware decode API). In IPTV Smarters, enable hardware decoding in the player settings. This offloads video decoding from the CPU to the Macβs dedicated media engine, significantly improving performance.
No sound when playing channels: Check macOS sound output in System Settings > Sound to ensure the correct output device is selected (internal speakers, HDMI output, or external audio). In VLC, ensure the audio output is correctly set in VLC > Audio > Audio Device. Some streams use AC3 Dolby audio β VLC handles this natively, but IPTV Smarters may require a passthrough audio setting.
M3U playlist takes too long to load in VLC: Very large M3U playlists (thousands of channels) can take several minutes to load in VLC. Consider requesting a region-filtered M3U URL from our support team that includes only your preferred channels. Alternatively, use IPTV Smarters Pro which handles large playlists more efficiently via the Xtream Codes API.
App consumes too much CPU on older Intel Mac: On older Intel Macs, software video decoding of H.265 streams is CPU intensive. Switch to H.264 streams where possible (contact our support team), or use VideoToolbox hardware decoding in VLC. Reducing the stream quality from 4K to 1080p in the app settings will also significantly reduce CPU load.
Device FAQ
We recommend **IPTV Smarters Pro** (available on the Mac App Store for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs) for its native macOS interface, Xtream Codes support, and integrated EPG. **Infuse 7** is an excellent alternative, particularly for VOD content, with a beautiful macOS interface and support for M3U playlists. For a free option, **VLC Media Player** handles M3U playlists reliably. Power users who want a full media centre can use **Kodi** with the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on.
Yes, Smarter Stream TV works perfectly on all Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, and their Pro/Max/Ultra variants). Apple Silicon provides exceptional video decoding performance, including hardware acceleration for H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9, and AV1 codecs. This means even 4K HDR streams play smoothly with minimal battery impact. Ensure you download the macOS-native version of your chosen IPTV app rather than the iOS version (though macOS 12+ can run iPad apps natively on Apple Silicon).
On Macs running macOS 12 Monterey or later with Apple Silicon chips, you can run many iOS and iPadOS apps natively. GSE Smart IPTV's iOS version may be available to install via the Mac App Store β look for it in the iPhone/iPad apps section. The experience may not be as polished as a native macOS app, but it is functional. Alternatively, use the dedicated macOS version of IPTV Smarters Pro for the best native experience.
Most IPTV apps on macOS support full-screen mode on external monitors. To move the player to your external display, drag the app window to that monitor and press Command+Control+F or click the full-screen button (green circle in the top-left corner). macOS also supports AirPlay to Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs β look for the AirPlay icon in your menu bar or use the Control Centre.
Yes, Catch-Up TV is available on Mac through any IPTV app that supports the Xtream Codes API. In IPTV Smarters Pro for Mac, navigate to any live channel that has the Catch-Up indicator (usually a clock icon) and you will see a timeline or date selector to watch content from the past 7 days. The availability of Catch-Up TV depends on your subscription plan β our Premium plan includes full Catch-Up TV access across all supported channels.
